The Hakawati Coat
Every stitch has a story to tell.
Named after the hakawati, the storyteller of Cairo's old coffeehouses, this is the most talked-about piece in Future Memories. Cut from black lambskin leather in a long, fitted line, it carries embroidered serpents winding up the front and across the hem. On the back, Sabr, the collection's donkey, is embroidered between the shoulders.
Brass studs trace the waist and hem seams before the coat ends in a deep leather fringe, and a printed lining keeps one more story on the inside. Made in very small numbers, to be worn for years and handed on.
